Viken Berberian is the author of the novels The Cyclist (Simon & Schuster) and Das Kapital (Simon & Schuster), and with Yann Kebbi, of the graphic novel, The Structure is Rotten, Comrade (Actes Sud, 2017, Fantagraphics, 2019). His short stories, memoir, and essays have been published in the New York Review of Books, BOMB, Granta, Kometa, the Financial Times, the International Herald Tribune, The Nation, Le Monde Diplomatique, Foreign Affairs, and the New York Times. Born in Beirut and raised in Los Angeles, he wrote The Cyclist in New York, Das Kapital in Marseille, and, The Structure is Rotten, Comrade in Paris, Montréal, and Yerevan. His writing has received recognition from France’s Centre National du Livre, Conseils des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, and the Canada Council for the Arts. He is a 2024 Villa Albertine grant laureate in the category of translation.
